Apologies for the delay in posting on our blog.
I hope you all liked our Valentines cards.

This week we have started a new topic in Literacy, we are now exploring film narratives which will lead to producing our own animations, which we will try to put onto our school blog by the end of the term.
In numeracy we have been going over some written calculations and revising fractions, decimal and percentages. This week we have been doing area and perimeter, ratio and proportion as well as rotating and translating shapes within a grid. Next week we will be revising time and converting measures.
In science we are finishing a topic on Gases and will be starting a new unit on changing states.
In ICT we have been learning how to use our new interactive whiteboard tools as well as using tools on Microsoft PowerPoint.
In Geography we have been doing lots of map work, inlcuding reading various different maps, doing directions, learning different symbols and using different scales as well as locating different places around the world using atlases. Next week we will start a new topic on Water.

I will try to update the Blog as regular as possible.

Just a last quick reminder:
HOMEWORK:
They still have to copy their spellings 5 times every week and write a sentence for each spelling word, underlining the spelling word. This is handed in and checked evry Monday when we do our spelling test.
They have to do 1 mental maths sheet a week and hand in on a Friday.
Last week they didnt have sheets but a poster to do, next week they will not have sheets either but other work on card.

Hi

We have had a really exciting extra addition into our class, we have now got our Interactive Whiteboard. The board means that children are able to see anything from a computer in a large format and they are able to draw, write and move anything on the screen using just their hands. This will enable us to use many more interactive resources in all our subject areas and will help the childrens ICT skills as well as skills in all other subject areas. If any parent would liek to have a look, just tell your child and we can organise a day for you to come and have a look and play with the board.

In class we are currently revising multiplication and division mentally and with written calculations as well as addition and subtraction in columns, we have extended this to larger numbers including decimals and finding decimal and fraction remainders. In literacy we are doing work on playscripts. Geography this term is all about water and mapping skills. We have just started our new science unit on gases.

Welcome back to school everyone, I hope you all have enjoyed Christmas, New Year and Kings Day.
This is just a quick reminder of how we structure homework and reading in P4 and a brief introduction into what work we will be doing this term.
We are now starting Term Twos spellings, every Monday we will have a lesson based on the spellings, then children will be expected to copy the spellings at least 5 times and write a sentence for each spelling word. This is then due back in the following Monday. They will then be tested on The spellings.

Every Friday they will have to do one Mental Maths sheet (Mon, Tues, Wed and Thurs), these will be handed out this Friday for the whole term, which has to be handed in the following Friday. They have a 20 question mental maths test every Thursday based on classwork and the mental math sheets set as homework.
Also on a Friday they will be given homework sheets based on English spelling and grammar,as well as core mathematic skills. These have to be brought into school every Friday.

Every child has a homework folder which should contain:
How to do homework sheet
Spelling lists
Mental maths fact sheets
Maths operations and fractions sheets
All previous homeworks
Mental maths homework sheets.
If anything is missing speak to me and I can reprint any necessary papers.

This term we will be doing the following topics:

LITERACY: Poetry, Film narrative, Dramatic conventions and significant authors.
NUMERACY: Multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, money, problem solving, decimals, sequencing and patterns, using a calculator, data handling, measures, angles, coordinates and translations, Time, Rounding, area and perimeter, Fractions, percentages and scales.
SCIENCE: Gases, Changing States
GEOGRAPHY: Water and Mapping skills
D&T/ART: Containers and Bread
ICT: Spreadsheets and to reinforce other subject areas.

I will try to write regularly to explain what work we are currently doing and include some links to websites for extra help.

This week has been so short that we have concentrated on doing our instruction work for literacy, by designing and creating out own biscuits, then making them, and of course eating them (I have included some photos on the blog). Next week we will be doing further instruction work in literacy, finishing our unit on The Earth, Moon and Sun in Science and percentages in mathematics. But please dont forget the school show on Tuesday, You will need to meet us at Rancho Park in the morning and make sure all the children are in their show costumes. Also Parents afternoon is Friday, I would appreciate it if you could tell your child wether you would like a translator present in your meeting. Spellings will roll over till this Monday coming when they will get 1 final set of spellings, both these have been based on words from the last 11 weeks. There is no more mental maths homework sheets until after Christmas and week 13 will be the last homework until january. I will include some websites on the blog for the children to look at during the Christmas holidays. Due to Christmas Show practices, some days we may not be able to complete work which would normally be able to, e.g. completing spelling tests on Mondays, however, we will fit them into the weeks lessons at some point. We will be doing various types of instruction writing until christmas now which will include creating recipes and making biscuits, following art instructions, instructional posters etc. In maths we have been studying measurements and converting them, e.g. km , m, cm and mm and kg, g and l, ml. We will also be looking at angles, including finding missing angles and drawing and measuring angles using a protractor.

Today we sent out our christmas show costume lists, so please try to get the costumes ready as soon as possible. For the stars, the gold fabric is available from El Kilo, its the colour which Eric and Andrea wore when they were Golden Cardholders in our assembly, Have a look at the picture underneath.

Sorry for the delay in the weekly subject update, this is due to the lack of internet service at the school this week. This week is maths we have been studying time: digital and clock face times, 24 hour and 12 hour clock times, to and past times as well as calculating time differences. In literacy we have been looking into legends and fables, but will be starting a new topic on instruction writing next week. In science we have started the unit on Planets, the children produced fantastic posters about planets for homework, which will be on display very soon. I will try to update what we are doing in class next week very soon.

Charity Cake Sale

Thankyou for all the support and yummy cakes you all brought in, there was so many we had to do a cake sale over 2 days. We raised 195 euros for the charity Neuvo Futuro. I will return all the containers on Friday or Monday. Thanks again.

Our Assembly is based on children in need, children suffering from lack of food and other basic life needs, therefore, we have decided to have a cake sale (torta de venta) to raise some money for a childrens charity. We would really appreciate it if you could made some cakes ( tortas) or buns (pequeños pasteles) for us to sell to the other children at patio time on Thursday the 10th November. Could you send them in to school with your children on the Thursday Morning. Thankyou.

Since next week is Halloween we have been doing Halloween themed work in Literacy this week. We have created out own Scary characters and settings (places) ready for halloween myths (stories). We will be writing our own stories with Pictures in a book, however, these will have to be finished for homework. There will be no sheets this week for homework, however the children must still do the next mental maths sheet (8) for the following Friday. They will also be making a poster about one of the planets in our solar system as homework. These websites will help with the Planet posters:

Please could you make sure all parents and pupils check homework diaries ( Libros de deberes) every week and sign (cada semana, firmar el libro). Spellings are given on Mondays, they have to write out each spelling 5 times and write a sentence with every spelling, if they cant remember the definition, use a dictionary to check, this should be handed in the following Monday. We are currently on week 2 spellings.
Literacy and Maths homework is given on Friday and should be handed in the following Friday. We go through how to do the homework together and mark it together every Friday. 1 mental maths sheet should be completed every week and handed in, they have a mental maths test on a Thursday now, instead of Friday. We are currently on homework 2 and Mental maths sheet 2. Please check that children are doing this work on time and neatly.

Welcome Children and Parents to P4, My Name is Miss Kirsty and I will be your new teacher. We have some changes within the school this year, we have a new head teacher: Miss Claudia supported by the deputy head teacher Miss Paula. Please make sure you have all of your equipment ready for the start of term as this will make the first week easier for all of us. Reading will begin from the start of the first week, and homework will be given on the first Friday (9th) and due in the following Thursday (15th). Lets work hard this year and we will suceed in whatever goals we set for ourselves, whilst having some FUN.

School Show

Well, School Show Day was very HOT with TALENT and very HOT temperature wise. The children were little stars and handled the heat very well, unfortunately we didnt get to finish the entire show thanks to the Calima, but I promise all of you, it is as good as the rest of it, if not better. Thanks To the parents for our flowers and thanks to P5 for simply being lovely children to teach, and not forgetting well done P4 for being amazing in the show.

Canary Day was great fun, many dancing lizards were made, lacked some colour, but hopefully they will have got some colour when they got to their new homes.
School Show practice is going well, but you all need to remember sun screen and hats as we are out in the sun quite a bit, but at least it isnt raining.
All SATS have been finished, just the job of marking them now and writing reports, but lets all enjoy our last 4 weeks of school.
I loved all your Aztec codex homeworks, I will try to get photos on here very soon.
